We are seeking to recruit a Research Assistant or a Research Fellow to coordinate and supervise the entomology components of the RCT in collaboration with a Tanzanian counterpart under the direction of the LSHTM Principal Investigator. Working closely with the LSHTM Principal Investigator in Tanzania (Natacha Protopopoff) and co-investigator (Prof Mark Rowland) as well as with Tanzanian counterparts at NIMR and KCMUCo, the post-holder will support the implementation and the supervision of the routine entomological surveillance using different indoor and outdoor collection methods, the insecticide resistance monitoring. The position will be supported by grants from the MRC/WT/DFID under the global health challenge.

At Research Assistant level, candidate must hold a MSc in medical entomology or vector borne disease control with experience working in a developing country on vector research or control. At Research Fellow level, candidate should have a PhD and track record of publications in vector control. Successful candidate will have a strong communication skills in public health entomology and teaching experience, and have significant supervision and management experience of entomological research team. For applicants who do not hold a PhD there may be opportunity to register for a PhD degree at LSHTM in due course if they meet registry requirements. The post will be based at NIMR, Mwanza, in Tanzania. The post is a part time position, at 0.5 FTE and is available initially from 1st September 2018 until 30th September 2021. There are strong prospects for a full-time position as new funding is expected in September and would be discussed during the interview. The salary will be on the Academic scale, Research Assistant Grade 5 scale in the range £33,567 to £38,533 per annum pro rata or Research Fellow Grade 6 scale in the range £38,533 to £43,759 per annum pro rata (inclusive of London Weighting). The post will be subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service.  Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year, pro rata for part time staff.
